Velocity Switch Channel
The most popular MIDI Controller type is the piano keyboard. Together with the virtual instrument software, it does a great job of imitating the piano. There are musical instruments with different ways of making sound where a piano keyboard has no equivalent to express them. For example, one can play the bass guitar by plucking the string to give a smooth, solid base sound. Slapping the string with a thumb would give a strong and sharp sound. By combining these two techniques, a base player can perform with more expression and joy.
Description
Velocity Channel Switch module can send a note to a different MIDI Channel depending on the note’s velocity. If the velocity is below the Threshold level, the note is played as is. But if the velocity is above this level, the note is sent to a different specified MIDI Channel. For example, your MIDI Keyboard is configured to send MIDI Messages to channel 1. Your DAW is set to have a Bass Guitar on channel 1, and Slap Bass on channel 2. Using the Velocity Switch Channel module with the Threshold set to 110 and the Secondary Channel set to 2 will let you play the bass with better expression. Playing lightly will produce a gentle base while striking the keys will produce slap bass sounds.
